"A record that consistently goes in and out of my bag, love both sides but the track “Heat“ produced by Eddie Richards is just straight up stripped back groove form the golden area of uk tech house 2002." - DMC
Tell me about your musical roots
The root and awakening to the world of music for me was my parents and family members. I grew up surrounded by music, lucky enough to have my choice of playing around with drums, guitar, or piano from the house I lived in growing up. From this, playing in bands as a drummer of several genres from the age of 10. In my early teens, I was recording demos and touring UK bands. Also, being shown new records from all corners of music daily whilst at home by my dad and uncles.
Are there any artists, cultures, or places that particularly influence you?
I’m heavily influenced by percussion and rhythm; drums and groove are imbedded in my soul. I’ve always adored world music, from Latin/Spanish/Brazilian/Samba, African, Indian, to rock ’n’ roll, jazz, blues the list goes on and on. If I’m in a record shop looking for tunes, I will usually come home with something fairly percussive. Equally, one of my main influences is my parents, who are both skilled and passionate musicians. As for places that inspire me, it would mostly be my home town of Liverpool.
What speaks to you when you’re searching for new music?
There’s absolutely no boundary or limit it can be a sound or genre I’ve heard before, or something completely new I’ve never heard. Both excite me so much, man. It can also depend on the energy or emotions of the music that corresponds to how I’m feeling at that moment, I suppose.
Do you have a non-musical activity that inspires you? If so, why?
Everyday life can give me moments of inspiration. I’m lucky enough to feel strong vibrations from day-to-day things such as a conversation with a new person or walking past a busker on the street doing something cool. I also like to write a lot poetry mostly.
What helps you to take care of your well-being?
Last year I started running and exercising more and more running every day with my dog and alone. It really is true what they say: exercise makes you feel good. Also, swimming, sauna, and steam really are a heavy way to make me feel good in my body. I practise being positive, kind, and grateful, and this helps take care of my mind.
